Launch of the ‘Digital Europe’ Series with a Lecture by Dr. Branka Marusic

The E-Europe Master’s Programme, Department of European Studies at Sofia University, and the Digital Republic Association, with the gracious hosting of A Data Pro, are launching the Digital Europe series.

The event will take place on May 16th (Friday) at 5:30 PM in Sofia and will feature a public lecture by Dr. Branka Marusic on the topic: „How to Build the Digital Internal Market within the EU: Caught between a Rock and a Hard Place.“

Using AI in teaching and research (A blended course suitable for lecturers, researchers and PhD students)

This series of lectures is designed to help researchers and PhD students leverage the power of AI tools to enhance their research workflows. Participants will explore a range of AI and other digital tools that can significantly aid in various stages of the research process. The sessions will address practical applications of AI for conducting literature reviews, data analysis, and interpretation of research results. Furthermore, the lectures will cover how AI tools can assist in the process of writing research reports, articles, and research proposals, including language editing to achieve clarity and impact. By the end of this series, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to ethically and effectively integrate AI tools to streamline their research activities and improve the quality of their academic production.

In-person sessions will feature AI tool presentations with interactive exploration and discussions on AI-related ethical dilemmas, collaborative critiques of AI-assisted outputs, and focused workshops on AI for specific research methodologies.

Online activities will include synchronous and asynchronous exploration and comparative review of AI research tools and other digital tools that can assist researchers in their literature reviews, qualitative research and dissemination of findings.

The aim of this series of sessions, delivered both in person and online, is to equip learners with essential digital tools for academic and specialised purposes. Participants will explore a selection of online resources designed to enhance their skills in academic writing, as well as translation and editing. A significant portion of the material will be dedicated to the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in language learning, including a critical examination of potential biases embedded within these technologies. Practical applications of AI will be demonstrated, alongside a thorough examination of academic integrity, strategies for avoiding plagiarism and respecting copyright in the digital age. By the end of this course, students will be able to leverage digital resources effectively and ethically, with an enhanced understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in language learning and written production in academic English.

In-person sessions will involve collaborative tool exploration, ethical AI use case discussions, hands-on AI comparison exercises, copyright and plagiarism workshops, and peer feedback on translation and editing tasks.

Online sessions will include live Zoom sessions with AI tool demonstrations and application tasks, online forum discussions on AI bias, collaborative online document work, and online quizzes on academic integrity and plagiarism.

Студенти и докторанти от катедра „Европеистика“ с участие във финала на DisInfoHack 2025

На 8 май 2025 г. от 9:00 до 16:00 ч. в Института GATE в София ще се проведе закриващото събитие на първия „бавен хакатон“ за борба срещу дезинформацията в България – DisInfoHack 2025. Събитието ще се организира в хибриден формат, с участието на 12 екипа от млади иноватори, които ще представят своите идеи пред жури от експерти, представители на институции, дипломати и партньори. Очакват се гости от МОН, МВнР, МО, НАТО, ЕС и водещи медии. След официалното представяне ще бъдат обявени победителите и връчени награди: 1500 лв. за първо място, 1000 лв. за второ и 500 лв. за трето, както и специални награди от спонсорите и партньорите.

Организатори на събитието са Стопански факултет и Философски факултет на Софийски университет „Св. Климент Охридски“, Институт „Големи данни в полза на интелигентно общество“ (GATE), ИИКТ-БАН, Европейски софтуерен институт, Уебцентрик, Контипсо и Айдентрикс. Събитието се провежда с подкрепата на Института по публична администрация, Клъстър Изкуствен интелект България, Клъстър „Здраве и науки за живота“ България, Annex, Цифров иновационен хъб „Тракия“ и Платформа Трувити. Спонсори на събитието са WISER Technology Solutions и FORTINET. В инициативата участват студенти и докторанти от катедра „Европеистика“.

Финалното събитие е част от специализираните консултантски събития „Европейски цифрови иновационни дни в образованието“, организирани от ЕЦИХ „Тракия“ и Институт GATE в периода 8–9 май 2025 г., в рамките на проект CYBER4All STAR.

Представители на катедра „Европеистика“ участваха във Втората годишна конференция на OPEN COST ACTION в Пилзен.

В периода от 28 април до 1 май 2025 г. в Университета на Западна Бохемия в Пилзен, Чехия, се проведе Втората годишна конференция на COST Action CA22121 – Rising Nationalisms, Shifting Geopolitics and the Future of European Higher Education/Research Openness (OPEN). Проектът изследва въздействието на съвременните форми на национализъм и геополитически натиск върху академичната свобода, международната ангажираност и отвореността на висшето образование.

Конференцията събра учени, експерти и представители на академичната и политическата общност от над четиридесет държави.

Преподаватели от катедра „Европеистика“ при СУ „Св. Климент Охридски“ участват активно в работните групи на проекта и са ангажирани с теми, свързани с академичната свобода, европейската интеграция и предизвикателствата пред международното научно сътрудничество в контекста на нарастващия неонационализъм и геополитическите напрежения.
